Since 1996, Red Herring has been awarding the most promising private companies from around the world, and its annual top 100 lists have become a much-awaited source within the industry for identifying the startups with the highest potential. The Red Herring Top 100 is compiled region-wise with separate awards for Asia, Europe and the Americas. This year, Noida-based TechAhead Software has made it to the Red Herring Asia Top 100 finalists.
Hundreds of companies from every region are reviewed every year, and nomination as a Top 100 finalist involves a rigorous three-stage process, during which the Red Herring team analyses all aspects of the company. In the first phase, judges look at the business model of each company in terms of technology focus and innovation. Companies that are not considered viable are eliminated at this stage. The second phase involves due diligence. It consists of a peer review, in which the judges get feedback from analysts in large consulting firms or experts from the VC community to review various aspects such as viability of the business model, revenue and growth projections and the competitive environment as well as the overall scenario in the particular sector. Following this, the finalists are shortlisted for the third phase, which involves live presentation and scoring at the Red Asia Awards event.
The finalists have to make a live presentation to the judges as well as the forum membership, which is scored. On the final day of the event, the scores are tallied and the Top 100 Winners are announced. “Entrepreneurship in Asia has reached an inflexion point, and as a result, Red Herring Asia 2014 has shifted into a new phase,” said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring. “A second generation of entrepreneurs is emerging and their execution skills and global ambitions are leading to great companies, solid growth and a global footprint. As importantly, we are seeing more companies from countries once absent from innovation circles. TechAhead Software shows great promise and therefore deserves to be among the finalists.
